Shifodong Fm

Period:
Permian

Age Interval:
P3 (63), Changhsingian Stage (late Lopingian Epoch; latest Permian)

Province:
Yunnan

Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at the Shifo Cave of the Sipaishan Country, Gengma County, Yunnan Province (98°34′, 23°25′). It was named by Lan Chaohua et al., in 1983.

Limestone. Composed of light-grey and grey-white massive limestones, intercalated with a small amount of black micrite, bio-limestone and dolomite. Thickness is over 230 m.

Lithology Pattern:
Limestone

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Disconformable contact with the underlying Damingshan Fm; but in the type section, it is in a fault contact with the underlying Damingshan Fm. But regionally, the next older unit is the Nanpihe Fm.

Upper contact

Uncertain; no distinct contact relationship between it and its overlying strata

Regional extent

Distributed in the Gengma County and the Yunlong-Mengla region.
